Türkiye's installed renewable energy capacity exceeded 74,000 megawatts (MW) by the end of August, while electricity capacity generated from domestic sources surpassed 85,000 MW, Türkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said on Friday.
Türkiye will continue efforts to reduce dependence on foreign energy, strengthen supply security and support development goals, the ministry shared on NSosyal.
Total installed electricity capacity stood at 120,784 MW with hydroelectric power plants comprising the largest share at 26.7%, reaching 32,289 MW.
Natural gas power plants accounted for a 20.5% share, totaling 24,743 MW.
- Solar ranks second among renewables
Solar power plants made up 19.8% of total capacity, reaching 23,877 MW and ranking second among renewable energy sources.
Wind power capacity rose to 13,867 MW, representing 11.5% of the total. Locally produced coal plants reached a capacity of 11,477 MW, while imported coal plants accounted for 10,456 MW.
Biomass capacity totaled 2,341 MW, and geothermal plants stood at 1,734 MW.
