WASHINGTON (AA) - Egypt's Ambassador in Washington Mohammed Towfiq has said, "This is not a coup d'etat because army did not take over the government, but took a step towards ending violence."
Speaking to Foreign Policy magazine, Towfiq reminded all groups in Egypt demanded army to administer the country following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.
Towfiq added that the army handed down the government by its own willing, showing it as a proof of army's disinterest in undertaking a political role.
Towfiq said, "This is not a coup d'etat because army did not takeover the government, but took a step towards ending violence," and added, "There is no way the army would lead the government."
