Spanish power utility Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid, signed a power purchase agreement with Amazon to supply clean electricity from the Oregon Trail Solar project, the company announced on Tuesday.
The 57-megawatt solar facility will be built in Gilliam County, Oregon, to power Amazon's data centers in the region, the company said in a statement.
The project represents an investment of about $100 million, will include roughly 100,000 panels and is expected to begin operating in 2027, it added.
The agreement adds to Amazon's existing contracts with Iberdrola for renewable projects in Germany, the US, the UK, Portugal and Spain.
In total, Amazon has secured 68,100 gigawatt-hours of renewable power from the Spanish utility.
It is the second deal between Avangrid and Amazon in the US Northwest, following a previous agreement for the 98.4-megawatt Leaning Juniper IIA wind project, also in Gilliam County, the statement said.
The two companies are also working together on renewable energy projects in Illinois, Ohio and North Carolina.
