Türkiye's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and Saudi company ACWA will sign an agreement in Istanbul on Friday regarding investments and electricity purchases for the 2,000-megawatt (MW) solar power projects to be built in Sivas and Taseli.
The agreement for the solar power projects, with 1,000 MW set for development in Sivas and 1,000 MW in Taseli, will be signed in the presence of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
During Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's official visit to Saudi Arabia on Feb. 3, the two countries signed a $2 billion solar energy investment agreement.
The intergovernmental agreement on renewable energy power plant projects covers a total capacity of 5,000 MW.
Commenting on the agreement previously signed with Saudi Arabia's energy minister, Bayraktar said Türkiye will purchase electricity generated under the Taseli project at a price of €1.99 cents per kilowatt-hour for approximately 25 years.

"Under the project, we are seeking 50% localization. With this approach, we aim to implement a project capable of meeting the electricity needs of approximately 2.1 million households following these signatures. We plan to lay the foundation in 2027, complete the first phase by the end of 2027, and finalize the entire project in 2028 and 2029," he added.
Meanwhile, Türkiye aims to reach a total installed capacity of 120,000 MW in solar and wind energy by 2035. To achieve this target, the country needs to add approximately 9,000 MW of new capacity to its system each year.
