Europe's wind energy capacity increased by 16.4 gigawatts (GW) to reach 285 GW at the end of last year, according to a report by WindEurope on Thursday.
The report, which includes the European 2024 Statistics and the 2025-2030 forecast, revealed that 84% of the additional capacity added last year came from onshore wind power plants.
Last year, Germany ranked first in capacity additions with 4 GW, followed by the UK with 1.9 GW, France with 1.7 GW, Finland with 1.4 GW, Türkiye with 1.3 GW, Spain with 1.2 GW, and Sweden with 1 GW.
The total capacity increase from the 27 EU member countries was recorded at 12.9 GW.
Wind energy accounted for 56% of Denmark's total electricity capacity and 33% of Ireland's, the report said.
Despite the ongoing war in Ukraine, a 45-megawatt wind power plant was commissioned last year.
Furthermore, Europe's wind energy capacity is expected to increase by 186 GW between 2025 and 2030.
The EU is expected to contribute 139 GW to the total capacity increase.
