Türkiye has sharply increased the role of solar and wind power in its electricity mix over the past decade, with solar's share rising 28-fold and wind's share more than doubling, according to the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.

The share of solar power increased 28-fold to 11.6% between 2016 and 2026, the Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Ministry said Monday.
Wind power's share more than doubled, rising from 5.7% a decade ago to 12.1% in 2026.
A similar trend was observed in installed solar and wind capacity. Türkiye's total installed electricity generation capacity reached 126,476 megawatts at the end of July.
Solar power accounted for 21.7% of total installed capacity with 27,507 megawatts, while wind power reached 15,358 megawatts, accounting for 12.1% in July.
The combined installed capacity of solar and wind power reached 42,865 megawatts, representing 33.8% of Türkiye's total installed electricity capacity.
Meanwhile, solar power generation reached 5.37 billion kilowatt-hours in July, the highest monthly level on record.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said, "This transformation is a strong indication of the concrete steps we have taken toward our goal of a 'Fully Independent Türkiye' in energy and a cleaner energy future."
Bayraktar said Türkiye will build on this major achievement in renewable energy by setting new targets, which the ministry will announce at COP31 in Antalya.
"We will continue to harness Türkiye's wind and solar resources for the benefit of our people and build strong infrastructure that makes reliable, clean and affordable energy accessible to everyone." he concluded.
