ANKARA
Turkey has strongly condemned a car bomb blast which killed at least 35 people on Wednesday morning outside a police academy in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.
"State authority needs to be established nationwide to actively fight against terrorist incidents," a Foreign Ministry statement said.
The bombers appear to have targeted a group of student applicants who had gathered to enroll at the academy in downtown Sanaa, the Yemeni Interior Ministry has claimed.
No group has yet claimed responsibility. However, the government normally blames such attacks on al-Qaeda-linked militants. The extremist network has previously claimed a series of attacks on security personnel in several parts of Yemen.
Yemen has been in turmoil since the fall of long-serving president Ali Abdullah Saleh in 2012.
Recently, the country's Houthi Shiite rebel group took control of the capital, opting to further expand its influence across Yemen. This has pitted the movement against local Sunni tribes and al-Qaeda, which is also said to remain active in Yemen.
