ISTANBUL
Turkey's European Union Minister Egemen Bagis met with Antonio Tajani, vice-president of the European Commission, in Istanbul.
Bagis said he discussed with Tajani European Union's visa regime on Turkish nationals, citing the vice-president as saying that he attached great importance to the removal of visa requirement on Turks when visiting EU countries.
"The visa requirement is another example of double standards of Europe's certain narrow minded politicians, which does not make any sense at all. They still think Turkey is what it was in 1959 when it first knocked on EU's door for membership," Bagis told reporters in a press conference after the meeting.
