ZONGULDAK, Turkey
A baby bear was put under protection after being saved from freezing to death by local people in the Black Sea region of Turkey on Wednesday.
Local people in Zonguldak city informed the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, after finding the four-day baby bear on the highway, who sent the bear to a local zoo.
Ministry chief Sezgin Ormeci said the bear was saved by emergency action from a veterinarian.
"The baby bear is being fed every two or three hours. We planned to get the bear to its mother but we could not find any trace of her. We decided to put the four-day-old to the animal rehab center of our ministry," he added.
The baby bear, which weighs about half a kilo, has reportedly been kept in the intensive care unit to ensure it does not get any infections.
The local zoo's vet Baki Aydin said that the bear has been fed with goat milk with eggs and honey in it.
Musa Sen, Village Headman of Zonguldak Alapli, told AA that when he found the baby bear, he warmed it by keeping it near the heater.
"My grandson was very upset to me when he learned that we could not keep it," he added.
