Explosion at army base in Rhodes kills Greek soldier
Blast also seriously injures another soldier
ATHENS
A strong explosion at a Greek army base in Rhodes killed at least one soldier, state news agency AMNA reported, citing military sources.
The 19-year-old soldier was killed during a scheduled hand grenade training session.
Another soldier, a 39-year-old sergeant, was also seriously injured in the incident.
The To Vima newspaper said preliminary technical indications suggested the explosion occurred during the handling of the defensive hand grenade.
Authorities were investigating whether a human error, a material failure, or a combination of factors caused the explosion.
