KUWAIT
The Kuwaiti government resigned en masse on Monday and will not attend a scheduled Tuesday session of parliament, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Ali al-Ghanim said.
"I have received a written letter from the government that all ministers have submitted their resignations to the prime minister," al-Ghanim told a press conference on Monday.
Formed in August, the 16-member government has come under fire from lawmakers, with some MPs filing nearly a dozen requests to question cabinet ministers – including the premier himself – on a host of issues.
Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah is due to officially submit his government's mass resignation to Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah later on Monday, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.
Kuwait's parliament had been scheduled to vote to withdraw confidence from Minister of State for Planning and Development Affairs Rola Abdullah Dashti. It had also been due to question Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Thekra Aayed al-Rashidi.
