Nhial Deng Nhial, Foreign Minister of South Sudan, has stated that many promises were made for South Sudan until this day; however, no concrete steps were taken to realize them.
Stating that the people of South Sudan had great expectations from them and they wanted to meet these expectations, Nhial said, "UN always supported us, however we can't say our needs were met completely at the end of the day."
Nhial emphasized that they valued the support and partnership of Turkey and said, "Therefore, we hope Turkey will play a significant role in South Sudan's corporate and human resource development."
Following their recognition as a sovereign state by the UN, Nhial stated that they were doing all they can to include different groups in the country in the development process.
Touching on the economic problems they were facing, Nhial said, "South Sudan has been in conflict for a long time. It undermined our development significantly. The most important issue is that we have oil but don't have the necessary oil facilities for production and export. At the moment we are working on other sources of income."
Emphasizing that Turkey's approach was different compared to other countries in economic terms, Nhial said, "Turkey was not only one of the first countries who recognized South Sudan as a sovereign state but also was first in establishing diplomatic relations. We value the support and partnership of Turkey in our economic development."
