DAMASCUS
The Syria regime's forces took control of a strategically important opposition stronghold near the Syria-Lebanon border, Syrian media reported Sunday.
Regime forces took control of Yabroud city, 57 kilometers north of the capital Damascus, after days of heavy fighting according to Syria's official news agency SANA.
Kalamun Media Center said opposition forces had destroyed two regime tanks and numerous military cars in Yabroud. They also reported that forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad had taken control of some parts of the Yabroud region but not all, with the help of Hezbollah militias.
The Local Coordination Committees of Syria reported that army helicopters have been using barrel bombs in Yabroud and vacuum bombs in Yarmouk, south of Damascus; both types of attack cause indiscriminate damage.
