KABUL (AA) - A roadside bomb explosion on Sunday killed one civilian and wounded five employees of the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan in the Ahmad Shah Baba Mena area, east of Kabul city.
"The bomb was placed on the roadside and exploded near a vehicle carrying employees of the Ministry of Defense," ministry spokesperson Dawlat Waziri told Anadolu Agency.
The wounded officers were taken to hospital, most of them with minor injuries.
Taliban insurgents have claimed responsibility for the bomb attack.
Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesperson for the insurgent group, told AA it was a "tactical explosion" targeting the personnel of the ministry of defense.
He claimed that they have killed six employees of the ministry and there was no civilian casualty.
But Ahmad Baheer, a local resident of the area, said he only saw the body of one civilian.
"I was close to the explosion. There was just a boom and then everyone started running," he told AA.
"Later I went again and saw the mini-van a little damaged and a body of a civilian of the ground," he added.
The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 before being ousted by US-led forces following the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington.
The group has recently stepped up attacks on government and foreign forces and facilities.
Thousands of civilians have been killed and injured since the US-led invasion in 2001, but the Afghan government has not been able to provide a reliable casualty toll.
