CAIRO
Egyptian authorities on Thursday released a young man detained two days ago on suspicion of involvement in a deadly attack on a security headquarters in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura.
Yasser Adel, son of former Muslim Brotherhood lawmaker Adel Younis, was arrested at Cairo International Airport on Tuesday as he prepared to board a plane bound for Turkey.
"He was released after it was made sure he was not involved in the Mansoura terrorist attack," a security source said.
Muslim Brotherhood spokesman Ahmed Osman had earlier denied that Adel was a member of the group.
"Being the son of a Muslim Brotherhood leader does not necessarily mean that he is a group member," Osman told Anadolu Agency.
Yasser, he said, had been on his way to visit his father, who has been living in Turkey for the last year.
At least 16 people, mostly policemen, were killed in Tuesday's Mansoura bombing.
One day after the attack, the Egyptian government officially designated the Brotherhood – the group from which ousted president Mohamed Morsi hails – as a "terrorist group."
