Voting begins for Anadolu’s ‘Images of the Year’
Annual Anadolu photo contest launches with new categories highlighting Gaza and human stories
ANKARA
Voting began Thursday for Anadolu’s “Images of the Year,” featuring photos capturing the most impactful events of 2025 through the agency’s eyes.
The contest, organized with the sponsorship of Lifebox, AJET and ROKETSAN, will select the images of the year from 112 of the most striking photos taken by Anadolu photojournalists and reporters.
These images cover various topics such as war, politics, sports, environment, wildlife and other breaking developments that have influenced both Türkiye’s and the world’s agenda, frequently featured in major international media outlets.
In the traditionally popular “Images of the Year,” which attracts hundreds of thousands of voters, two special categories have been added this year: “Gaza: Starvation” and “Portrait.”
The “Gaza: Starvation” category includes 15 photos focusing on the humanitarian disaster caused by hunger being systematically turned into a weapon in Gaza, while the “Portrait” category presents 14 photos telling human stories by focusing on faces.
A special announcement text has also been included for the “Gaza: Starvation” category.
Other categories
There are four main categories: “News,” “Wildlife and Environment,” “Sports” and “Daily Life.”
Twenty selected photos will be presented for voting in the “News” category, 21 in the “Wildlife and Environment” category, 21 in the “Sports” category, and 21 in the “Daily Life” category.
Participants in the “Images of the Year,” which will be voted on worldwide with Turkish and English captions, can vote for as many photos as they wish.
The voting, first organized by Anadolu in 2012, is participated in every year by people from all segments of society, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, ministers, politicians, bureaucrats, athletes and artists.
Last year, 1,543,367 people participated in the voting.
The voting will continue on yilinkareleri.aa.com.tr until Saturday, Jan. 31 at 5 pm local time (1400GMT).
