A total of 214 PKK terrorists have been killed in counter-terrorism operations in southeastern Turkey since Dec. 15, Turkish General Staff announced Tuesday.
According to a statement on Turkish Armed Forces' official website, most of the casualties took place in Cizre and Silopi districts of Sirnak province and in Diyarbakir's Sur district where the operations continue amid curfew.
Out of the 214 terrorists killed, 155 were slain in Cizre and 17 others in Silopi, while 42 more were killed in Sur.
Meanwhile, the army in a statement said that terrorists killed a five-year-old boy in Cizre late Monday while he played in the garden at his home. An initial autopsy report revealed that a Kalashnikov bullet had hit Huseyin Selcuk.
Separately, a soldier was wounded in Sirnak province when PKK terrorists opened fire on him while he withdrew money from an ATM machine in Orman Street in central Dicle neighborhood.
The wounded soldier was transferred to the Sirnak State Hospital.
An anti-terrorist operation has been continuing in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakir, Sirnak and Mardin since mid-December, with curfews declared to fight the terrorists nested in houses abandoned by many citizens.
A curfew was imposed in Cizre and Silopi on Dec. 14. Many citizens left the district before the curfew, which became the scene of clashes between security forces and PKK terrorists.
The PKK – considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its armed campaign in late July.
Since then, more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed.
