Italy's head soccer coach Cesare Prandelli and Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete have quit after the national team was knocked out of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The moves came shortly after the Azzuri (The Blues) were eliminated in the group stages by losing 1-0 to Uruguay on Tuesday.
According to the tournament's official website, Prandelli, 56, said: "I talked to the President of the Federation and Demetrio Albertini, and gave my resignation."
"The technical set up didn't work, and I take all responsibility for that. Something has changed since my contract was renewed. I don't know why."
"I chose a certain technical plan and that's why I am resigning, because it did not work. My resignation is irrevocable," he said.
Following Prandelli's move, Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete also quit.

"I would like to announce my resignation. When we get back to Italy I will call a meeting with the Federation and hope Prandelli will withdraw his resignation. I had already made my own decision before the World Cup," Abete said.
Former Roma and Fiorentina head coach Prandelli had managed Italy since July 2010.
