Germany clinched a spot in 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals after extra-time goals from André Schurrle and Mesut Ozil in the Round of 16 game played at Estadio Beira-Rio, Porto Alegre, on Monday.
In the quarter-finals, Germany will take on France which defeated Nigeria 2-0 in their Round of 16 showdown on Monday.
During the first half, Algeria played confidently, denying their opponents an easy domination of the game.
In the 17th minute, an Algeria goal by Islam Slimani was disallowed for offside.
In the second half, Algeria tried to hit Germany on counter-attacks, while their goalkeeper Rais M'bolhi stopped many shots of Germany.
Despite mounting pressure, Germany could not score the winning goal and the match went to extra time.
In the early minutes of the extra time, Germany finally broke the deadlock when Chelsea forward Andre Schurrle found the net in near post by flicking the ball by heel, 1-0.
Arsenal star Mesut Ozil's goal in 119th minute clinched the victory for Germany. Ozil smashed the ball deflected by Algerian defense in the penalty box, 2-0.
A minute later, Abdelmoumene Djabou scored a consolation goal for Algeria, which determined the final score: 2-1
Algeria's goalkeeper Rais has been elected man of the match after saving a great number of shots fired by German players.
