The late South African President Nelson Mandela's statue in London's Parliament Square and the South Africa House in Trafalgar House have been filled with flowers and candles as well as peace and love messages.
Londoners and tourists paid tribute to former South African President by leaving flowers and messages on his statue in the Parliament Square.
Living in the British capital for the last 12 years, South African Nwabisa told AA correspondent that she specially came to the Mandela statue to honour him while an official memorial service was held for him. Nwabisa said, "I know the fact that if Mandela was not there, we still wouldn't be allowed to have passports as blacks of South Africa. So he is the greatest man ever lived in this world."
Gune from Malaysia said he wanted to pay tribute to Mandela on the day of his funeral by visiting the statue. "Mandela taught us about freedom, and to talk about Appertheid. It is honouring us to pay tribute to him in front of his statue" Gune added.
Jay of Jamaican origin who lives in the British capital, said she was grateful for what Mandela has done. "He is a black man bringing all black, white, everybody together. Obviously his time has came and he has done what he came here to do. I am sure he is going to a better place now", Jay added.
Another Malay tourist visiting London, Mohamed said, he was deeply sorry for Mandela's death. He described Mandela as a good leader and added, "We loved his work for fighting for love, peace and civilization. I think the world needs more Mandelas. I hope his legacy will never end."
Furthermore, as many Londoners were willing to visit South Africa House following the death of Mandela, London Underground has placed information boards, directing people about the location of the Embassy in various stations.
Nelson Mandela's statue in front of the British parliament was erected by former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown back in 2007. British Prime Minister David Cameron as well as former premiers Gordon Brown, Tony Blair and John Mayor are attending Tuesday's memorial service for Mandela at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg.
