Tunisia's President-elect Kais Saied took the oath of office on Wednesday before the National Assembly (parliament).

The former law professor was elected president in a presidential run-off on Oct. 13.

"There is no room for anyone to act above law," Saied said in a speech after the swearing-in ceremony.

He vowed that the "freedom of our people will not be taken away under any justification".

The newly-elected president vowed to confront terrorism with all available means, going on to vow to provide support for the Palestinian cause.

Saied is the eighth president of Tunisia since the country won its independence in 1956, and the second since the 2011 revolution, which deposed autocrat Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali.
