Israeli warplanes launch airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs
Strikes hit neighborhoods in Dahieh hours after Israeli evacuation warning
BEIRUT
Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes Tuesday on several neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of Beirut, according to an Anadolu correspondent.
The strikes targeted the Lailaki area, the Jamous district and Bajour Street in Borj el-Barajneh, part of the densely populated suburb.
The attacks were intense, with thick black smoke rising above the area, while some sources described the strike on Jamous as particularly powerful, witnesses told Anadolu.
There was no official Lebanese statement about casualties or property damage.
The airstrikes came hours after the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning around 1.30 pm local time for residents in several neighborhoods of Beirut’s southern suburbs, including Haret Hreik, Ghobeiri, Lailaki, Hadath, Borj el-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir and Chiyah -- urging them to leave until further notice.
The Israeli army mounted several airstrikes Tuesday in southern Lebanon, shortly after issuing immediate evacuation orders for residents in areas south of the Litani River.
Israel and the US launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 victims and injuring over 10,000. The conflict spilled over to Lebanon, with Israel launching deadly airstrikes that have killed nearly 500 victims and displaced thousands since March 2.
