Drone crashes near house in Baghdad
Incident occurs in al-Jihad neighborhood of Iraqi capital; no casualties reported
BAGHDAD
A drone crashed near a house in the Iraqi capital Baghdad early Wednesday, according to security sources.
Sources told Anadolu that the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) fell near a residence in the al-Jihad neighborhood of the city.
No casualties were reported.
Videos circulating on social media showed residents gathering in the neighborhood following the crash.
Witnesses also reported hearing sounds of explosions in several other districts of Baghdad.
The incident comes after repeated drone attacks targeting the US Victoria military base at Baghdad International Airport. Security checkpoints have been set up at multiple locations across the capital following the incidents.
Regional escalation has intensified since the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran on Feb. 28, reportedly killing more than 1,200 people, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls and senior military officials.
Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli cities and locations hosting US military assets across the region, raising fears of a broader Middle East conflict.
