LONDON

More than 50,000 people have crossed the English Channel to enter Britain since Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour Party took power in July 2024, according to figures released Tuesday.

Home Office data revealed that 474 people crossed the Channel on Monday in eight small boats, the highest number of irregular migrants to arrive in one day in August.

According to the latest figures, the total number of people who have arrived in the UK via small boats has surpassed 50,000 since Starmer's Labour Party won the general election on July 4, 2024.

According to reports, this is the quickest arrival of irregular migrants in the country of any prime minister's duration, with only 402 days since Labor took office.

In response to Sky News, the Home Office said the government has a "serious plan" to stop small boat crossings.

A spokesperson said: "We all want to end dangerous small boat crossings, which threaten lives and undermine our border security.

The spokesperson added that the trafficker gangs do not care whether the vulnerable people they exploit live or die as long as they pay, and that the government "will stop at nothing to dismantle their business models and bring them to justice."

"That is why this government has put together a serious plan to take down these networks at every stage."

"Stopping the boats" is also a priority for the Labour Party government, as it was for the previous Conservative government under Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

In response to the numbers, Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said only the Conservatives have the will and the plan to make it happen.

Labour is "too weak to act," he claimed.
