The number of anti-Muslim hate cases in the UK has continued to rise, with a watchdog recording an all-time high in 2024 since its inception.

Last year, 6,313 anti-Muslim hate cases were recorded, a 165% rise from 2022, the Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks or Tell MAMA said in its annual report released on Wednesday.

Tell MAMA has recorded a 120% increase in street-based cases since 2022, with the category of "threatening behavior" increasing by 715% between 2023 and 2024.

The watchdog received 9,604 verified cases between 2023 and 2024.

Online anti-Muslim hate reports to Tell MAMA surged by 1,619% after Oct. 7, 2023.

The group attributed this sharp rise to the conflict in the Middle East.

Tell MAMA's report identified "X" as the "most toxic" online platform for anti-Muslim hatred while also expressing "deep concern" about AI-generated anti-Muslim images, which were increasingly reported by British Muslims in 2024.

Tell MAMA Director Iman Atta OBE stressed the increased need to support victims of anti-Muslim hatred as it affects more British Muslims.

“We are at a nexus point where it is clear that anti-Muslim hate needs a coordinated action by His Majesty’s Government,” she said.

The director also described this surge as “unacceptable” and “deeply concerning.”

“We should never allow such hatred and intolerance to take root in our communities. We urge the public to stand together against hatred and extremism, and we urge those in positions of influence and public authority to consider how their language risks stereotyping communities and how it unduly influences discussions online and offline,” she added.
