Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar held a series of high-level meetings on Wednesday during Russian Energy Week, aimed at strengthening Türkiye's international energy partnerships.
Bayraktar met with Saudi Arabia's Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman fora<6 a comprehensive and productive" meeting, the Turkish minister said in a post on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.
The two ministers reaffirmed their determination to expand existing cooperation and develop new projects and joint investments.
Bayraktar noted that both countries see strong potential for collaboration in renewable energy and interconnection infrastructure and agreed to take concrete steps in these areas.
The Turkish minister also met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son on the sidelines of the forum.
They discussed steps to boost mutual investment and technological cooperation in renewable energy and mining, expressing a shared desire to deepen the economic and strategic partnership between their countries.
"We aim to play an active role in regional development by establishing new energy and mining-based partnerships with Asia," he added.
- Türkiye, Hungary agree to boost regional cooperation
During his meeting with Hungary's Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto, they discussed strengthening cooperation between Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS) and Hungary's MVM, particularly in natural gas trade.
The two ministers also agreed to enhance regional cooperation on hydrocarbon exploration and production between Türkiye's Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and Hungary's MOL.
Bayraktar also met with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak for a "productive meeting."
The two reviewed the progress of ongoing joint projects and discussed in detail new cooperation opportunities, particularly in the fields of nuclear energy and hydrocarbons.
Bayraktar added that Türkiye's energy partnership with Russia continues to develop on the basis of mutual trust, a long-term strategic vision, and a shared commitment to fostering regional stability.
The minister also met with Rosatom's CEO Alexey Likhachev and said they "reviewed our strong business ties in detail."
The meeting focused on the current status of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which plays a key role in Türkiye's drive for energy independence.
He said Türkiye views nuclear energy not only as a source of power generation on the path to its 2053 net-zero target, but also as a driving force for energy security, localization, and technological advancement.
He thanked Likhachev for presenting him with the "Order of International Cooperation in the Nuclear Field."
Bayraktar also met with Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and discussed the long-standing cooperation between Türkiye and Russia in the natural gas sector and explored new steps to further strengthen their partnership.
He added that the strong collaboration, based on a win-win approach in the energy field, will continue to enhance regional supply security and contribute to global energy stability.
At a session titled "Nuclear Energy: Saving the Climate, Uniting Countries, Shaping the Image of Humanity," Bayraktar said the world's need for nuclear energy continues to grow with the expansion of sectors such as artificial intelligence and data center electrification, adding that Türkiye's nuclear investments are being planned on a solid foundation.
