China's holdings of US Treasury Securities fall to lowest in 12 years

ANKARA

China's holdings of US Treasury securities in April declined to the lowest level in 12 years, according to the US Treasury Department figures released on Wednesday.

Beijing's holdings of US Treasuries plummeted 3.5% to $1.003 trillion in April on a monthly basis, the lowest level since May 2010.

Annually, it is an 8.5% decline from $1.096 trillion from the same month of last year.

Japan still remains as the biggest holder of US Treasury Securities outside the US.

Tokyo's holdings of US Treasuries also fell 1.1% to $1.218 trillion in April compared to the previous month.

On an annual basis, the April figure saw a decrease of 4.6% from $1.277 trillion in the same month of 2021.

Foreign country's holdings of US Treasury securities totaled $7.455 trillion in April, according to the US Treasury Department figures.

US Treasury securities are used as government debt instruments to finance the spending of the federal government. They are issued by the US Treasury Department.
