Afghan interim administration to 'assess' recommendations of UN resolution
UN General Assembly adopted resolution for Afghanistan to uphold human rights, adhere to international law, take decisive action against terrorism

KARACHI, Pakistan
The Afghan interim government said Tuesday it will "assess" recommendations in the latest UN resolution on Afghanistan, and will identify areas for "possible" cooperation.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution Monday that urged Afghanistan to uphold human rights, adhere to international law and take decisive action against terrorism, amid a worsening humanitarian crisis, rising numbers of returnees and the enduring effect of decades of conflict.
It was adopted by a 116 - 2 vote, with 12 abstentions, sustaining global attention on the country. The two opposing votes were the US and Israel.
Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Kabul sees as "positive" the parts of resolution that acknowledge its efforts to ensure security and counter narcotics, as well humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, the removal of obstacles to its economic growth and for countries to engage "constructively" with Afghanistan free from rivalries.
Rejecting allegations in the resolution relating to human rights and actions against terrorism, the statement said, "The resolution's endorsement of previous UN resolutions, reports, and assessments, particularly in the areas of security, and Human rights and using these as a basis for argumentation, is the continuation of the same narrative shaped under pressure and directives of certain countries founded on the denial of ground realities.
Although it said that the resolution concerns Afghanistan's situation and requests cooperation from the interim government in various areas, however, Kabul was not consulted at the drafting or adoption stages.
This raises questions about the accuracy and practicality of parts of the resolution, it said.
"Nonetheless, the Islamic Emirate will asses the recommendations and requests, and will identify areas for possible cooperation in line with Islamic precepts and our national interests," it added.
