WASHINGTON

US Rep. Nancy Mace filed a resolution Monday to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of her committee assignments after her "disgraceful" remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

“Ilhan Omar has shown us exactly who she is: someone who defends political violence and refuses to condemn the loss of innocent lives when it doesn’t suit her agenda, even the cold-blooded assassination of Charlie Kirk," Mace said in a statement.

"If you mock a political assassination and celebrate murder, you don’t get to keep your committee seat, you get consequences," she added.

The resolution aims at “censuring Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and removing her from the Committee on Education and Workforce and the Committee on the Budget."

It cites Omar’s Sept. 11 appearance on the “Breaking Points” podcast, where she criticized public mourning for Kirk, saying people who claimed he “just wanted to have a civil debate” were “full of s—.”

She also reposted a separate video calling Kirk a “stochastic terrorist” and a “reprehensible human being” who promoted hatred “right up to his final moments.”

President Donald Trump on Monday called Omar a “disgraceful person” and a "loser" when asked if the congresswoman should be stripped of her committee roles.

Trump said it was “hard to believe” that voters continued to support her.

"But I think she's a disgusting person," he added.

Kirk, 31, was fatally shot on Sept. 10 while addressing a group of students at Utah Valley University in the city of Orem, some 40 miles (64.4 kilometers) south of Salt Lake City. Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested over the death of the right-wing influencer.

FBI Director Kash Patel said Monday that DNA evidence collected from the scene of the conservative commentator’s killing matches the suspect currently in custody.

Patel stressed that the FBI investigation remains ongoing, with agents continuing to interview witnesses and analyze forensic material, including cell phone data and DNA samples. Findings are being shared with local and federal prosecutors for charging decisions, he said.
