US approves $404M aircraft equipment sale to Australia

WASHINGTON

The US State Department approved the potential sale of aircraft-related equipment and support services to Australia for an estimated $404 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced Wednesday.

The proposed deal includes upgrades for Australia's MC-55A fleet, spare parts, repair and return services, and US government and contractor technical and logistical support, DSCA said in a statement.

The DSCA said the sale supports US foreign policy and national security goals by strengthening the self-defense capability of Australia, which it called “one of our most important allies in the Western Pacific.”

The agency noted the sale will enhance Australia’s ability to maintain effective air operations and bolster regional stability without affecting the military balance.
