MADRID
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said that the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union (EU) would be bad news.
Margallo's comments came after UK Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday said that he would take UK's EU membership to a referendum.
David Cameron, Prime Minister of the UK and the leader of the Conservative Party, promised to go to referendum on EU membership on the condition of his party winning the general elections in 2015.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in Madrid, Margallo indicated that being isolated would be a bad solution for the UK.
"We need not less Europe but more Europe," Margallo underlined.
Asked about his views on the "Declaration of Sovereignty" by the Catalan Parliament on Wednesday, Margallo noted that it would be a bad news for the EU if a member state got divided.
"If the issue is Catalonia, there is no doubt that it would be a worse news for Spain," Margallo also said.
