MAZHAR-I SHARIF/KABUL (AA) - Four Taliban militants died Thursday during clashes with police officials in Herat province in western Afghanistan.
Militants attacked a police station in Herat's Shindand town, leading to hour-long clashes between Taliban militants and police officials, police official Ahsanulhaq Ahadi said.
Ahadi stressed one of the Taliban's most important leaders, Lal Mohammed, was among the dead. He added two policemen and five militants were also wounded.
Meanwhile, four civilians were wounded during a suicide attack on a NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) convoy in Afghanistan's eastern Khost city.
No ISAF officials were harmed in the attack conducted on Khost-Gardez road at 3 p.m. with a bomb-laden vehicle, Deputy Interior Minister of Afghanistan Ayub Salangi said.
The Afghan Taliban's Spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack and claimed that nine US soldiers had died.
