CAIRO
A court on Monday acquitted a cousin of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi of charges that he had tried to kill two Egyptian police officers early this year, a judicial source said.
Ahmed Gaddaf al-Dam was arrested in Cairo in March during a raid on his home carried out jointly by Egyptian security forces and Interpol.
His arrest had come at the request of Libya's post-Gaddafi authorities, which had accused him of financial corruption.
Egyptian prosecutors had accused Gaddaf al-Dam of shooting at two police officers, one of whom was injured, before security forces managed to seize him. Security forces also allegedly seized unlicensed weapons found in his home.
Earlier this year, an Egyptian court ruled against the extradition of Gaddaf al-Dam, who had earlier requested political asylum in Egypt and had even produced documentation, which, he said, was proof that he held Egyptian nationality.
