KABUL
Thirty Taliban militants capitulated on Monday and surrendered to Afghan security forces in Afghanistan's Kandahar province.
"30 militants fighting on the opposite side in the district of Kandahar joined the peace process," said Kandahar Governor spokesman Jaweed Faisal.
Indicating the surrender of militants who previously dealt in anti-government activities in various regions of Kandahar, Faisal attached importance to their participation in the peace process.
No statements have been issued by the Taliban on the topic.
According to official figures, around 4,000 militants laid down arms and joined the Afghan peace process within the recent year; however, there are still attacks across the country.
