LONDON
British Prime Minister David Cameron pledged Friday to do all he can “to hunt down” those responsible for the death of British citizen Alan Henning and “bring them to justice.”
“The brutal murder shows how barbaric and repulsive these terrorists are,” Cameron said in a statement hours after the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant [ISIL] published a video purporting to show the beheading of a second British citizen.
It was the fourth video released by ISIL, showing the beheading of American and British hostages. The group threatened to kill American Peter Kassig next.
“My thoughts and prayers tonight are with Alan’s wife Barbara, their children and all those who loved him,” Cameron said.
Cameron said that Alan Henning had gone to Syria to help provide aid to people of all faiths in their hour of need. “The fact that he was taken hostage when trying to help others and now murdered demonstrates that there are no limits to the depravity of these ISIL terrorists,” he said.
Henning, an aid worker, was kidnapped last December in Syria.
U.S. President Barak Obama also condemned on Friday the "brutal murder" of British citizen Alan Henning.
"Mr. Henning worked to help improve the lives of the Syrian people and his death is a great loss for them, for his family and the people of the United Kingdom," Obama said.
The U.S. leads a broad alliance, including the United Kingdom and several Arab countries, in conducting airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq and in Syria.
