Hundreds of firefighters from Azerbaijan left Turkey on Monday after helping in successful operations to douse recent massive wildfires in the country’s southern parts.
The team of 732 people sent by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations helped in evacuating citizens and animals in affected areas, as well as being part of efforts to contain and douse the blazes.
“We are very happy that we were with our Turkish brothers. There are many friends in good times, but true friends and brothers are with you in bad times,” said Col. Resat Bayramov.
Turkey saw hundreds of forest fires in its southern and southwestern provinces from July 28.
With intensive and dedicated efforts, all the blazes were brought under control in just over two weeks.
At least eight deaths were reported in the fires, according to official figures.
