ANKARA
Anadolu Agency continues to pepper the international media's pages with its world-renowned caliber photos.
Paris Match, the flagship magazine of photojournalism in France, published a double page spread of an Anadolu Agency picture, showing Ezidis in Iraq marching as they fled from Islamic State militants leaving behind homes and belongings to take refuge in the mountains of Sinjar.
AA's photojournalist in Erbil, Emrah Yorulmaz, managed to illustrate with his photo the tragedy of Ezidis’ plight and the difficulties they encountered during their migration.
The famous British daily The Independent also used AA photos that told the story of Ezidis fleeing to Turkey. On two separate occasions, AA pictures from Orhan Cicek and Emrah Yorulmaz, both based in Gaziantep in southeast Turkey, were used as headlines in The Independent.
AA Director of Photography and Video Ahmet Sel noted that the Agency has made remarkable progress in the international distribution of its photographs.
"This is a double success. On one hand, our photojournalists do extraordinary work in areas of most difficult conflicts and manage to make a name for themselves, especially in the Middle East and Africa. On the other, our distribution of photos and videos is gradually spreading internationally," he said.
AA Editor of Photo Department Firat Yurdakul said the agency was accustomed to the extensive use of AA photos by international publications, but that, so far, it had traditionally been the digital media.
"We have recently witnessed that our extensive global reach allowed our photos to find their place in the international print media as well," he said.
The agency recently employed talented stringer photojournalists in countries such as India, Indonesia, Brazil, Venezuela and Thailand.
In addition, AA, boasting a broader global coverage, has begun marketing its photos thanks to an agreement signed with Getty Images in March, in addition to those with other leading photo agencies such as AFP ImageForum, DPA, Scanpix, Contacto and VI Images.
AA is already a well-established global news agency offering newswires in seven languages with operations spreading across major regions around the globe, including the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Asia-Pacific and serves business customers in more than 100 countries.
