A total of 28 people, most of whom are children, have been killed in a shooting in an elementary school in Connecticut, U.S.
Authorities said that a 20-year-old assailant opened fire in two classrooms in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, killing children and adults, and then committed suicide.
U.S. press identified the assailant as "Adam Lanza", however police did not confirm the identity of the shooter.
Officials said that the assailant first killed his mother at home, then took her car and two guns and a rifle registered on her, and went to school to commit the massacre.
Children as well as six adults at the school were killed in the shooting.
The shooter killed himself after the massacre, said officials who have not found out the reason of the shooting yet.
The bodies are still on the crime scene, added the officials.
The population of Newtown, which is some 100 km away from New York, is nearly 27,000.
Turkish premier sends condolence message to U.S. president
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent a condolence message to U.S. President Barack Obama over the shooting in an elementary school in Connecticut.
I feel very sorry that many U.S. citizens including children have lost their lives in an attack in a school in Newtown city, said Erdogan who offered condolences to the relatives of victims, and wished speed recovery for the wounded ones.
