ANKARA
A law amendment for changing the name of Turkey’s Nevsehir University as “Nevsehir Hacı Bektas-i Veli University” and the name of Aydinlar district in Turkey's eastern Siirt province to “Tillo” came into the effect after it was published in the official gazette on Wednesday.
The amendment was made in the framework of the democratization package, announced by Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on September 30.
The package includes regulations for enhancing political rights, facilitating local party organizations, groundwork for the chair system in parties, propaganda in other languages, teaching in different languages, and lifting headscarf ban in state institutions.
Haci Bektas-i Veli was a prominent religious figure of Alevi belief, who lived and taught from 1209 to 1271 in Anatolia.
The aim of changing the name of the Aydinlar district was to give back its old and accepted name.
