Turkish households allocated the highest share from their budgets to housing and rent expenditures with a rate of 25.8 percent, according to the publication released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) published on household consumption expenditures for 2012.
According to the results of the 2012 Household Budget Survey, expenditures on housing and rent had the highest share in total consumption expenditures while the expenditures on food and non-alcoholic beverages ranked second at an overall rate of 19.6% in Turkey. The shares of expenditures on health was recorded at 1.8% and educational services at 2.3% in terms of total expenditures in Turkey.
The average monthly consumption expenditure per household in Turkey was estimated as TRY 2,120 (approx. $1,060) in 2011, and as TRY 2,366 (approx. $1,183) in 2012. This value varied regionally as it was calculated as TRY 2,642 (approx. $1,321) for urban areas and TRY 1,741 (approx. $871) for rural areas in 2012.
