ANKARA
Turkish parliament speaker said on Tuesday that Turkey's aim was to enhance peace and order, stability, and prosperity in the Balkans.
Cemil Cicek said the Balkans was one of the most unstable geographies in the world in the past, and boosting relations and establishing lasting relations would be for the best interests of everybody.
"Turkey's aim is to enhance Balkan's peace and order, stability and economic welfare, and to this end, Turkey will continue to extend multilateral support to Macedonia," Cicek said as he received Macedonian Foreign Minister Nikola Popovski.
Cicek said he would visit Macedonia this Thursday and Turkey was doing everything it could to give Macedonia the place it deserved in international community and backed the country's NATO membership.
The parliament speaker also said it would be for the best interests of the two countries to back each other in international meetings and exchange views.
Popovski, in his part, said Macedonia was ready to do its best for a stable Balkans, and his country wanted to see positive developments not only in Macedonia but also in other countries in their region.
"We exert efforts to maintain this positive atmosphere in the Balkans. In this context, role of Turkey, the biggest and strongest country in the region, is important," Popovski also said.
