ANKARA
Turkey and New Zealand on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to devise ways for cooperation in education.
The agreement was signed in Ankara by Turkish Education Minister Omer Dincer and New Zealand's Trade Minister Tim Groser on the sidelines of the ninth edition of Turkey-New Zealand Joint Economic and Technical Committee.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dincer said New Zealand offered great advantages in higher education with lower university tuition as well as in English language training.
Dincer said governments in both countries had the political determination to boost potentials and cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, defense and education.
Dincer added that enhancing relations private sectors should also a major goal, saying efforts would be made to establish business councils between Turkey and New Zealand.
The Turkish education minister also said earthquake relief was another important field where the two countries could cooperate, adding that Tuesday's agreement mentioned readiness by both countries' emergency relief agencies engaging in cooperation.
Groser, on his part, said that Turkey had achieved an impressive task by being a source of political stability in a very volatile region of the world while making Turkish people more prosperous.
