ANKARA (AA) - Turkey attracts tourists from all corners of the world with its golf fields, aerial sports, opportunities for diving, maritime cruising and tours of caves in addition to sea-sand-sun tourism.

One of the most important ten tourism destinations in the world, Turkey is at the forefront with its touristic activities in addition to its coasts, history, and faith tourism.

While it has become more popular in recent years, the history of golf in Turkey dates back to end-19th century. The first golf field in Turkey went into service in 1895. Today, there are 15 first class golf fields in Turkey.

12 golf fields in Belek town of the southern province of Antalya appeal to golf players from every level.

Aside from Belek, there are golf fields in Mugla, Istanbul Silivri and Kemerburgaz which could be used in international competitions.

The construction of 10 new golf fields in Turkey continue (2 each in Antalya, Istanbul and Izmir; 3 in Mersin; and, 1 in Mugla).

 

-Aerial sports-

 

Those who wish to enjoy freedom in holidays prefer Babadagi in Fethiye and Cokelen Mountain in Pamukkale.

Babadagi is suitable for paragliding between April and October while paragliding could be made at the Cokelen Mountain throughout the year. Furthermore, cities such as Antalya-Kas, Isparta, Erzincan, Eskisehir, Erzurum, Izmir and Bolu are suitable for air sports.

 

-Diving-

 

Surrounded by seas, Turkey is one of the favorite destinations for those who love to dive.

Turkey offers unique locations to divers ranging from the "cold cave" to a World War II Italian war plane under water, and from the remains of the ancient Lycia civilization to areas inhabited by monk seals and dolphins.

 

-Cave tourism-

 

There are around 40,000 caves in Turkey with under ground lakes, reservoirs, stalactites, and stalagmites. Regions famous with their caves are Mugla, Antalya, Isparta, Burdur, Konya, Karaman, Icel and Adana.

To date, 800 caves have been documented by both local and foreign researchers. Around 30 caves are now in service for tourists throughout Turkey.

 

-Blue voyage-

 

Blue voyages provide an opportunity to tourists to observe gulfs reminding the paintings of artists, ancient cities and isolated creeks.

Blue voyage generally begins in Bodrum town and ends at Antalya port. As part of they voyage, tourists can see Kaputas Village and Patara beach selected as the world's best by the Sunday Times.
