ANKARA, Turkey
At least two suspected militants have been killed and five security personnel have been wounded in several separate attacks in eastern provinces of Turkey, official sources said Wednesday.
Three Turkish soldiers were wounded in a remote-controlled bomb attack on their patrol vehicle in eastern Kars province Wednesday, security sources said.
An operation was launched in the area to nab the suspects behind the incident.
Also, the Turkish General Staff said that a "separatist terrorist organization" member was killed in a clash in eastern Igdir province Wednesday.
It added that "20 terrorists" surrendered to security forces in Sirnak, Hakkari and Bingol provinces Wednesday.
In another incident, at least one police officer was injured in a rocket attack on a government office in Turkey’s southeastern Mardin province Tuesday night, official sources said.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, Mardin Governor Omer Faruk Kocak blamed the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants for attacking the Nusaybin Government Office.
Kocak added that a PKK member was also killed in clashes with police.
The wounded special-operations officer was taken to Diyarbakir Hospital and is in a stable condition, the governor added.
Separately, a police officer was injured in an attack with a bomb-laden vehicle in eastern Tunceli province.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Turan, a 44-year-old civilian who was shot two weeks ago with a long-barreled weapon fired from a car while sitting in front of a tea house in southeastern Diyarbakir province, died early on Wednesday.
That attack was also blamed on the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU.
