NEW YORK
Turkey's Labor & Social Security Minister Faruk Celik said on Tuesday that as part of Turkey's 2023 vision plans, Turkey aimed to reduce its rate of unemployment to 5 percent by the year 2023.
Celik who has been in New York for the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) meeting told the reporters that Turkey had attended the ECOSOC meeting in representation of Europe.
Mentioning Turkey's current unemployment figures better than other countries in the continent, "In European Union, the rate of unemployment for young people is 22.1 percent while in Spain and Italy it is more than 50 percent. However, Turkey succeed to reduce the rate of unemployment for young ones to 17.4 percent in 2012," said Celik.
Celik stated that if the unemployment rate for young population is more than 50 percent in a country, security issues would never end in that land. "To ensure the safety and security, firstly economic and unemployment issues should be sort out," highlighted Celik.
Expressing that Turkey's unemployment figures for young population was 25 percent in 2009, "Last four years, Turkey has showed a great performance and now unemployment rate dropped to 17 percent, and with the help of tourism in summer months this number would plunge to 16 percent," said Celik.
Turkey has medium and long term plans for unemployment, and as part of Turkey's 2023 vision plans, we aimed to reduce the rate of unemployment to 5 percent by the year 2023, stated Celik.
