ANKARA
Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Mustafa Balbay, who was detained under the Ergenekon case, attended on Tuesday the general assembly of the Turkish Parliament where he took oath to begin his duty.
Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court gave on Monday the ruling for the release of journalist and CHP Deputy Balbay.
After taking the oath at the general assembly, Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek congratulated Balbay, saying, "I also hope detainees, whose rights have also been violated with long term detentions and other reasons, to be freed, too."
CHP deputies have also congratulated Balbay as well as Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahceli.
Meanwhile, general assembly of Turkish Parliament began dicussing Turkey's budget for 2014 on Tuesday.
The budget debate, a once-a-year opportunity for the opposition to question individual government departments as they present their budget proposals for the upcoming year, will continue for 11 days, ending on December 20.
