Giant book mockups lined up on a street to promote book reading in Turkey's Cukurca district of southeastern Hakkari province.

In the district near the Iraqi border, where the security forces established peace and security with successful operations against PKK terrorists, the district governorate carried out works to promote the reading among people.

The colorful books of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, John Steinbeck and Yasar Kemal, among others are illustrated on a street.

Temel Ayca, the acting mayor and district governor of Cukurca, said: "Our goal is to give young people and our children a habit of reading books and to create awareness on this.”

He also expressed pleasure for receiving a very good response on the works the district governorate has carried out in this regard.

Ayca said they would continue works to promote reading in the district.
