In the 81st minute, Swiss midfielder Blerim Dzemaili scored the consolation goal for his team from a freekick, 1-5. Having had a slow start, Switzerland narrowed the gap to four after their midfielder Granit Xhaka, who was assisted by Turkish-Swiss captain Gokhan Inler, put the ball in the back of the net by slamming it with his left foot in the 87th minute, 2-5.
In stoppage time, Benzema, who has been elected as man of the match, found the net by making a spectacular placement outside the box, but the goal was disallowed as the referee had blown the final whistle before the ball hit the net.
