World-renowned football player Lionel Messi will support a global campaign launched by the international police agency Interpol, dubbed #TurnBackCrime, to increase awareness against crimes.
According to a statement released on Saturday by France's Lyon-based Interpol, the 26-year-old Argentine team captain and Barcelona striker was offered an active role in the international campaign over crime and its impact on daily life due to his exemplary character as well as his popularity in football.
“Lionel Messi is known the world over as one of the greatest players of all time and his support for the Interpol's Turn Back Crime campaign shows his commitment to fair play both on and off the pitch,” said Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble, according to the organization's official website.
“We hope that his support for the campaign will encourage more people around the world to join us and say, together we can turn back crime,” Noble said.
Messi will be the symbol of the campaign which aims to help engage and encourage people to take a stance in preventing crimes.
