English national football team manager Gareth Southgate on Monday extended his deal until 2024.

"We are delighted to confirm England manager Gareth Southgate and assistant coach Steve Holland have signed new contracts that will take them both through to December 2024," England said in a statement.

"I am delighted that Steve and I have been able to extend our stay in our respective roles," Southgate, who was hired in 2016, said.

"It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team," he added, and thanked the English FA board and the team for their support.

"We have a great opportunity in front of us and I know they and the fans are all excited about what this squad could achieve in future," Southgate said.

The 51-year-old recently guided the Three Lions to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after thrashing San Marino 10-0.

The team also reached the 2018 World Cup semifinals, and the UEFA EURO 2020 final this summer.

The former England defender played for his country's Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Middlesbrough before retiring in 2006.
